The Revolving Art incubator brings us another prolific artist, who gives us enchanting and mesmerizing artwork.
Gestures of resistance is curated by the incomparable Me.Jumoke Sanwo who brings light to Kehinde’s art. The installation opens at the at the Soto gallery in Ikoyi, Lagos on the 28th September at 4pm.
About the Artist
KEHINDE AWOFESO
b.1980
Kehinde Awofeso is a self-taught artist based in Ibadan, Nigeria, whose work draws from both lived and ongoing experiences. Awofeso explores social realities, questioning social conditioning and challenging notions of normalcy. Their art serves as both a form of escape and a platform for engaging in discussions about resistance,identity, and autonomy within repressive systems.
Awofeso holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MTech in Information Technology.
Past exhibitions include ‘Untangling the Perils that Tangle Us’ at Kanbi Projects, Koppel Project Space, London; ‘The (In)visible Organ’ at the Rubinstein Art Centre, Duke University, USA; ‘No Condition is Permanent’ and ‘Four Women’ at the Revolving Art Incubator in Lagos.
Awofeso’s works are part of the collections at Duke University,USA, Bournemouth University, UK, and several private collections in Nigeria, including that of Olumide Makanjuola. Their work was also recently added to the Karen Pittelman collection.
