Alright, so let’s talk about ‘Jiggy Forever’, the latest offering from Young Jonn. I have to say, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. No doubt Young Jonn is a fantastic producer and that can be seen throughout the album, the music felt a bit lacklustre
Young Jonn’s production skills are undeniable, and there are moments where his talent shines through. Tracks like ‘Jeje’ and ‘Go Hard’ have some catchy elements that might get your head nodding, but they lack the depth and creativity that I was hoping for from his debut project
One of the main issues I had with ‘Jiggy Forever’ is its lack of cohesion. It feels like a collection of random tracks rather than a cohesive album with a clear direction and a sense of disjointedness that’s hard to ignore.
The 16-track album boasts features from the likes of Kizz Daniel, Don Jazzy, Blaqbonez and an international feature from Sean Paul but it wasn’t feature heavy as you would come to expect from a producer’s album with 10 songs with no feature, we have to give Young Jonn his flowers on this, its no easy fit.
It’s clear that Young Jonn is capable of more, but it feels like he played it safe with this one.
Overall, ‘Jiggy Forever’ left me feeling underwhelmed. It’s not a terrible album by any means, but it lacks the spark and innovation that I look for in a producer’s album.
The album since its release has become the most streamed Nigerian album, amassing over 210 million streams, but does it have replay value? Would you genuinely want to listen to the album after your initial few plays?
If you’re a die-hard Young Jonn fan, or just want to get your body moving, no doubt you would enjoy the album, but for me, it just didn’t quite hit the mark.
I would give it a solid 7/10.
